Ultra 10 specific notes

PrevUp

This is my "newest" piece of Sun equipment so far. It is a gift on occasion of my birthday in 2008. People knew about my strange passion for obsolete hardware, so this machine from a company's surplus made it into my collection.
The machine appears to be a larger edition of the Ultra5, with a bit more capacity of everything.
I decided to put Solaris 10 on it, which required a larger disk, more RAM, and eventually an off-the-shelf DVD drive, because it's just too boring to feed the installation with a pile of CDs.

IDE

The machine has two internal IDE connectors on the mainboard, one for the hard disk(s), one for the CD-ROM. It is possible to add an additional DVD drive on the latter "branch", e.g. for OS installation purposes. Jumper one of these drives to be master (usually the hard disk), the other to be slave.
For installation, at the OpenBoot prompt:
devalias # cdrom /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@2,0:f
devalias dvdrom /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@1,0:f
boot dvdrom
