=================================================================

Pageview must be run from Solaris.

If you try to run it on a SunOS 4.1.3
display you will get the following
error:

myhost% pageview
pageview: Can't contact the NeWS display
myhost%

To run pageview do this.

get onto your Solaris platform

From /usr/openwin/bin
type in
pageview

where it says goto put in
the path to the images, for example,
/usr/openwin/share/images/PostScript

From there you should be able to get the images up.

What do the buttons mean

File
  left mouse button
just puts up a popout menu which will also
let you to choose any directory and from there you
can put up postscript images. Now normally, one
would go to a directory where there are postscript
images. One such directory on ventura is
/usr/openwin/share/images/Postscript. Then you
just select a file and click open. You
could just put in your own file and see what
happens, but for your first exercise you may
want to just put up the existing postscript files.

View
Some of the postscript files are more than one
page and the View button allows you to advance
through more pages. Each click of view will advance
you one page.

Edit
The most interesting of the options. Edit will
produce a popout menu containing the postscript code.
For those who have tinkered with postscript code
you can go in and change things. You can experiment around
a little bit by changing translate and rotate values.

Look at the properties. By default they are set to
us letter which is bigger than the screen.

   Support files

You should have the dps support files in place.
If you don't nothing will come up. The dps
support files are those files which are usually
kept in /usr/lib/X11/ncd/dps and are:

  CIE-dict19c.dat NCDFILE.MAP VM_3_2.snf prebuilts
  InitProc.dat PSres.upr fonts

               ********************

      Colormap flash errors

Colormap flash errors can be fixed by clicking in another window
and then get the focus back in the main window.
Also you could press Alt F12.
caution: we have had some customer say that they
alter properties and the colormap gets screwed up.
This is deceiving because it has nothing to do
with the properties that are being changed but
rather it is because when the property menu
comes down they are changing focus on the window.

               *********************

You don't need any special extra fonts for Pageview like
  you do when running imagetool.

              ************************

You can get away without having OPENWINHOME set
