__________
The Ethernet 10BaseT Transceiver (twisted pair) (#4224) provides the complete Attachment Unit Interface (AUI) to a twisted pair LAN connection. It is connected to a 15-pin DIX Ethernet connection via a transceiver (AUI) cable and converts the signal to 10BaseT. The medium connection is made through an RJ-45 receptacle. Features include:
The Ethernet 10Base2 Transceiver (thin cable, #4223) is compatible with Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 transceiver specifications and 10 Mbps Ethernet CSMA/CD operation, to provide a connection to thin Ethernet coaxial cable (10Base2). It is connected to a 15-pin DIX Ethernet connection via a transceiver (AUI) cable and converts the signal to 10Base2. The medium connection is made through a BNC coaxial connector. Features include:
Investment ProtectionThe POWERstation/POWERserver 220 series supports AIXwindows(R) Environment/6000, which is based on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) X window System, and includes a graphical user interface based on OSF/Motif(1). Through the use of Industry Standard OSF/Motif, customers may realize savings in end user training and application development. Additionally, savings in hardware may be realized through the use of LAN-attached Xstation, to reduce per seat cost. The POWERstation/POWERserver 220 series with AIX/6000 offers interoperability with other IBM and other vendor host systems, helping to protect the customer's principal investment. __________
System ManagementA system installation and management facility is provided as part of the operating system. The System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) facilitates the performance of system management tasks, such as software installation and configuration, device configuration and management, problem determination, and storage management. Support is also provided for the use of an ASCII terminal as the system console as well as remote installation of the system on a LAN.
AIX/6000 is designed to meet the
National Computer Security Center(NCSC) trusted computer system
evaluation criteria class C2 security support requirements.
Growth EnablementThe POWERserver 22S is designed to grow with the customer's low-priced, entry requirements. Memory can be increased up to 64 MB. Eight memory SIMM slots are available to yield 64 MB with eight 8 MB PS/2(TM) memory SIMM's. The PS/2 Memory SIMM's are available in 4 and 8 MB, and must be ordered and installed in pairs. Error Checking and Correction(ECC) is used instead of parity to improve system reliability. A maximum of seven SCSI devices (including an internal fixed disk drive) can be attached to the integrated SCSI port. Seven additional devices can also be connected if the SCSI High-Performance External I/O Controller(#2835) is installed. One integrated SCSI controller that allows up to seven SCSI devices and one integrated Ethernet controller, allow the user to have a LAN attachment and additional I/O devices and graphics. The standard 8-Port Async Adapter included in the POWERserver 22S utilizes one of the Micro Channel(TM) slots leaving one slot free for expansion. This slot (form factor 3) is available for additional features such as communications processors and high-performance graphics processors. __________
Other Product InformationIn addition to announcement of the POWERserver 22S, IBM RISC System/6000 220 series device support is expanded and extended to include the following:
SCSI High-Performance External I/O Controller (#2835)This controller
provides high-performance attachment of single-ended SCSI disk
drives, CD-ROM and tape devices. This feature and the appropriate cables
provides for the attachment of up to seven SCSI devices external to the
system unit (six meters, 19.6 feet maximum).
SCSI Controller Cable (#2832)Required from the SCSI Adapter to the first external device. The cable is 1.5 meter (5 feet) in length. Includes terminator.
SCSI Controller Passthrough Terminator Cable (#2915)The SCSI Controller Passthrough Terminator Cable is designed to provide uninterrupted termination of a shared SCSI bus by two host systems. Each system must have the Passthrough Terminator Cable installed on an SCSI High-Performance External I/O Controller (FC 2835). Whenever either one of the host systems is powered off and removed from the SCSI bus for service, the SCSI bus remains terminated and operational for the other host system. Only one SCSI Controller Passthrough terminator is supported. It must be attached to a SCSI High-Performance External I/O Controller installed in the top slot. A maximum of five external devices may be attached to a shared SCSI bus, not to exceed six meters (19.6 feet) in length.
4-Port Multiprotocol Communications Controller (#2700)The 4-Port Multiprotocol Communications Controller attaches the 7011 Model 220 series to synchronous communications networks using EIA-232C, EIA-422A, V.35 and X.21 physical specifications.
4-Port Multiprotocol Interface Cable (#2705)The 4-Port Multiprotocol Interface cable (#2705) is three meters (9.8 ft.) in length and allows for connection of the 4-Port Multiprotocol Communications Controller (#2700) to synchronous networks via the following cables:
In France, a V.35 Pin Adapter (#2703) is required with (#2702).
64-Port Async Controller (#6400), (#6401), and (#6402)The 64-Port Async Controller provides attachment for a high concentration of asynchronous communication lines (64) from a single I/O slot. The controller has connectors to attach up to four external 16-Port Async Concentrators (#6401). A concentrator provides 16 connections for EIA-232 asynchronous devices (RI and DSR signals are not supported). Although application dependent, data rates up to 38.4Kbs per port are supported. A 7.6 meter (25 feet) controller attachment cable is included with each concentrator (#6401) and cabling distances of up to 762 meters (2500 feet) between controller and concentrator are supported. (cables are customer supplied.) EIA-232 cabling of up to 61 meters (200 feet) between concentrator and device is supported
16-Port Async Adapter - EIA-232 Select (#2956)The POWERserver 22Smay be ordered with this feature in place of the standard 8-Port Asnyc Adapter. This is an option on the POWERserver 22S only. This adapter will attach up to sixteen EIA-232 asynchronous serial devices. Up to two of this adapter can be installed in a POWERstation/POWERserver 220 series. The adapter contains the electronics required to support sixteen asynchronous ports and utilizes one I/O card slot. The sixteen connectors for device attachment are provided in a 16-Port Interface Cable - EIA-232 (#2996).
64-Port Async Controller - Select (#6403)The POWERserver 22S may be ordered with this feature in place of the standard 8-Port Asnyc Adapter. This adapter will attach up to sixty four EIA-232 asynchronous serial devices. For additional information and characteristics, refer to the description of Feature #6400.
Ethernet High-Performance LAN Adapter (#2980)The Ethernet High-Performance LAN Adapter is a high-performance Micro Channel Architecture Bus Master adapter which attaches the 7011 Model 220 series to Ethernet networks. This adapter is designed to provide connection to a 10-Megabit Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) Ethernet network and is compatible with IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet external interfaces. To attach the system to the network, the customer must supply the appropriate cable for connection to the standard 50-ohm or RG-58A/U coaxial cables. Note: RISC POWERstation/POWERserver 220 series systems cannot be booted through this device.
RISC System/6000 7235 POWER GTO Accelerator Feature (#4350)The POWER GTO Accelerator Feature provides for the attachment of the IBM 7235 POWER GTO subsystem. This feature occupies one I/O slot in the Micro Channel. Maximum: One per system.
