Real-Time Clocks

This column identifies whether or not the CPU board incorporates a real-time clock device. CPU boards that do not have a real-time clock are not impacted by the Year 2000 issue.

Embedded Communications Computing boards that incorporate a real time clock device with a "Year 2000 Hardware Status" of "Y2K Ready" (OK) store the last two digits of the year in a two-character BCD format. Based on our testing, it has been determined that these real-time clock devices are Year 2000 Ready, when the software used with these devices interprets the year value of 00 as the year 2000. For example, Motorola firmware that is compatible with PowerPC products interpret the year digits as being in the range of 1987 to 2086.

Embedded Communications Computing boards that incorporate a real time clock device with a "Year 2000 Hardware Status" of "Not Y2K Ready" (NR) use real-time clock devices that require software support to be Year 2000 Ready.

Motorola Supplied Firmware

This column identifies whether or not the CPU board is provided with Motorola supplied firmware. For CPU boards that are provided with Motorola supplied firmware, the Year 2000 Readiness status of the hardware and the firmware are listed separately. If Motorola's customer, the end-user, or a third-party installs other firmware or replaces the Motorola supplied firmware (e.g., firmware from a real-time operating system vendor) we cannot provide the Year 2000 Readiness status for the non-Motorola supplied firmware used in combination with our CPU board. In this case, Motorola can only provide the Year 2000 Readiness status of the hardware, excluding the firmware. The provider of the firmware must provide the Year 2000 Readiness status of their firmware in combination with the Motorola CPU board.

The information on this website constitutes Year 2000 Readiness Disclosures
and supercedes all prior Year 2000 Statements.
