The AIR Series suite of applications is a set of easy to use high end TCP/IP applications for Windows. With the AIR Series applications, you can access hosts on a local TCP/IP network or on the Internet - without changing your network environment. AIR Series applications' ease of use, concurrent operation with other operating systems, high performance, and reliability make them the ideal choice for users who need to fit TCP/IP applications into their current and future networking environments. These tools facilitate navigating through TCP/IP networks and the Internet. Included are easy to use and intuitive applications such as a telnet program, an ftp program, a version of the File Manager to include remote file systems, a usenet news reader, a mail reader, and a Gopher program and Mosaic front end. Using these tools, it is possible to utilize the full power behind the resources the Internet and networks like it have to offer. Citrix WinView for Networks Version 2.3 or higher with the TCP/IP option Version 1.0 or higher installed. 2. Spry, Inc. AIR Series Internetworking Tools (AIR Tools), Version 3.0 or higher. Setup ----- 1. The AIR Tools can be installed in two different configurations: in a network install allowing multiple users access to the same executables, or as a personal install for only one user. For the network install, two installation procedures are required: the network install that moves the installed files to a network drive (or a publicly accessible application server drive); and the individual user install, which simply creates the appropriate .INI files in the user's \WINDOWS directory. For the individual installation, all files are put into the user- specified directory and .INI files are created in the user's \WINDOWS directory. 2. During installation, you will be asked several questions. The required answers to these questions are detailed below. - Type of installation: For a network installation, choose "Install to Network," otherwise choose "AIR Series applications (use your existing TCP/IP transport)." - Specify the directory to install to: - Specify applications to install: The following tools have been tested with WinView: AIR Telnet, Network File Manager, AIR Mail, AIR News, AIR Mosaic, Utility - UUCode, Utility - ImageView (see Limitations), AIR Gopher, and FTP Command Line. - Network File Manager Security level: If you choose to install the "Network File Manager," you will be asked to choose between two different levels of security. In order to maintain the security of usernames and passwords on remote systems, we recommend you use the secure version. - Do you wish to install the Novell TCP/IP transport: Answer "No." - Do you wish to install support for PPP (remote connectivity) using dialup access: Answer "No." At this point, the installation is complete; you may receive a few messages regarding .INI files, as well as an "Installation Complete" Popup. If you perform a NETWORK installation, you will need to install the applications to the individual users who want access to the AIR Tools. 3. If you are performing an individual installation from the network, you will be asked a few questions in addition to what is described above. These are detailed below: - Type of installation: Choose "Run programs from network drive." - Select the directory to install to: - If you chose to install the AIR Mail application, you will also be asked to provide the location of the SMTP gateway where your mail is stored. Provide your email address in the form: username@host.domain.name - Do you wish to install the Novell TCP/IP transport? Select "No." The installation is now complete. You may want to review the README files that come with the applications. 4. In order to ensure that the AIR Tools are using the correct version of Winsock, it is necessary to edit the APP2SOCK.INI file located in the \WINDOWS directory. Under the [APP2SOCK] header, locate the line that reads: transport=LWP and change it to read: transport=WINSOCK Save the APP2SOCK.INI file with the changes and restart Windows. Your AIR Tools applications are now ready for use. Operation --------- 1. Connect to the WinView Application Server using REMOTE LINK, LANLINK, or IPLINK. 2. Login as a Windows user with the AIR Series tools installed and select the tool you wish to use. Refer to the AIR Series User's Guide for help with specific tools. Limitations ----------- 1. The ImageView utility is limited since WinView Windows currently supports only 16-color display modes. Problems -------- 1. All tested applications in this suite function as documented. There are no known problems at this time.
