The Graphics Tablet attaches to the Tablet port, next to the mouse and the keyboard port. On some systems, it is labeled with a "T."
Lighted Programmable Function Keys (LPFKs) and Dials plug into the two connectors in the GIO (Graphics I/O) adapter. You need a GIO adapter card to use LPFKs and/or dials. Upon reboot of your system, the dials and LPFKs should be configured automatically. If you do not want to reboot, you can use SMIT to manually add them. To use this method, follow the steps below:
The Spaceball attaches to the serial port of your machine. The Spaceball requires a special serial cable and connector that provides power needed by the Spaceball. It will not work unless you have the power adapter for it.
NOTE: Some systems may configure differently. Consult the literature that came with your Spaceball.
After connecting the Spaceball with the special serial cable, you may need to add a tty to the system. This can accomplished by using SMIT.
To add the actual Spaceball device through SMIT, accomplish the following:
You may need to reset the spaceball. To do so, press the following buttons on the spaceball: 1,1,2,2,3,5,6,7,8.
You may have problems installing the devices to the system if the device drivers are not there. You can check by typing, lslpp -la devices.mca.edd5 and lslpp -la devices.serial.sb1 for the spaceball. If the device drivers are not installed, install them and reboot. You can check if the devices are known to the system with the lsdev -C command.
NOTE: If you once had a tty connected to the same serial port to
which the
spaceball is connected, the system may still think you have a terminal
attached and your X11 input devices may not work properly. If you
have not rebooted the system since attaching them, you will need to do so.
The information in this document should be sufficient enough to enable access to
these devices
through X11, GL, graPHIGS, PEX and OpenGL.
