To find out if an adapter is truly 24-bit, you should see the following after entering lsdev -Ccadapter:
gt4 ppr0 Available 00-02 POWER Gt4 Midrange Graphics Adapter pgr0 Defined 00-03 POWER Gt4 Midrange 8-bit Frame Buffer pop0 Defined 00-04 POWER Gt4 Midrange 24-bit Frame Buffer option
gt4x ppr0 Available 00-02 POWER Gt4 Midrange Graphics Adapter ppc0 Defined 00-02-01 POWER Gt4x Midrange Graphics Adapter Turbo pgr0 Defined 00-03 POWER Gt4 Midrange 8-bit Frame Buffer pop0 Defined 00-04 POWER Gt4 Midrange 24-bit Frame Buffer option
gt4xi ppr0 Available 00-02 POWER Gt4xi Graphics Adapter pgt0 Defined 00-03 POWER Gt4 24-bit Feature
If you do not see the preceding entries, the adapter is probably NOT 24-bit.
