NOTE: This drive is very sensitive to block size. For example, using a block size of 1024 and backing up 32GB of data will take approximately 22 hours. 32GB of data backed up at a block size of 30,000 will take approximately two hours. Small block sizes have a significant impact on performance, but only a minimal impact on capacity. However, 2.6 format (density) and 6 format (density) are significantly impacted in capacity by using small block sizes because they do not pack the data in the internal block. Users should ensure the block size they select is supported by their application. Compression will depend upon the type of data. A compression ratio of 2:1 is assumed for this compressed capacity.
The optimal block size for this drive is 262144 or, to take advantage of variable length, block size should be 0 (zero).
If the block size is set to zero, optimal performance for commands are as follows:
find ./<filename[or Dir]> -print | backup -b512 -iqvf /dev/rmt0
backup -b256 -0 -uf /dev/rmt0.1 /<filesystem>
savevg -ip -b512 /dev/rmt0 <vgname>
mksysb -i -b512 /dev/rmt0
tar -N512 -cvf /dev/rmt0 ./<filename>
