When you run the xinit commmand, and subsequently echo the $DISPLAY on an xterm or aixterm, the values vary between :0, 0:0, and :1.
The reason this happens is because you are starting up Xwindows before the
socket is reset. The
sync daemon will clear up the socket with time. However, if Xwindows is
run before this is cleared,
it will use X1 as the next available socket. To ensure that socket will be used,
you can view
/tmp/.X22-unix and search for X0. If X0 exists, you can delete it.
