HP 9000 712 specific notes
I've got two of these typical pizza boxes.
The 100MHz model was my first home UNIX box, obtained in 2004.
Unfortunately it seems also the first to go belly up after several
years of usage under HP-UX 10.20. In November 2008 it stopped working with the power LED flashing
with a pattern indicating CPU or CPU board failure, according to the
technical reference manual :-(
The 80MHz model I got in 2006, foreseen as my reference machine for HP-UX 9.05. Apart from the somewhat slower CPU
its RAM capacity maxes out already at 128MB, but still the box should
be a good choice for 9.05.
The small form factor of the 712 gives one the idea to turn them
into supersized laptops, sort of.
