IBM RS/6000 25T specific notes

PrevUp

Cute little MCA pizza boxen, reasonably priced workhorses for desktop computing back in their time, ca 1994. Probably the best classic workstation IBM ever produced, solid, compact but nevertheless with sufficient expansion options. One of this kind was my second desktop @ work after the 320.
In my hobbyist collection as many as three machines have accumulated over time, mostly surplus machines from other collectors.
One of them (rs6km) I setup for use as an I/O server for magnetic tapes. In addition I use it for testing all kinds of SCSI gear, including formatting harddisks.
The remaining two I earmarked as target machines for restoration of mksysb backups from long gone AIX 3.2.5 machines I used to use @ work in the mid 1990s. These 8mm backup tapes were still good after 15 years, and since they were from AIX 3.2.5 (i.e. all drivers included) I even managed to restore an RS/6000-970 rack system onto a lowly 25T :-) Of course most of the original hardware (FDDI, mainframe connection, et al.) was missing, but the system eventually booted and gave me a flashback into old times :-)
