The performance of a Germanium detector is related both to its efficiency and to its resolving power, which depends on good energy resolution (intrinsic but also minimizing of Doppler shift effects) and good peak-to-total ratio (needing efficient Anti-Compton shields).
The measurements have been performed with a source at a distance of 25 cm. The total -ray spectrum was integrated for three different regions: 50 keV-1345 keV, 100 keV-1345 keV and 200 keV-1345 keV, respectively. The experimental data are presented in table 5.1 for individual Germanium crystals, for the Super Clover detector in add-back mode, after suppression with BGO-shield and after suppression with BGO-shield and CsI-collimator.
Table 5.1: Peak/Total fraction measured with a source for
individual Germanium crystals, for bare Super Clover detector, for
Super Clover detector with BGO-shield and for Super Clover detector
with BGO-shield and CsI-collimator.
For future experiments a different set-up of the anti-Compton shield was tested: the active CsI-collimator was removed and the front face of the BGO-shield was shifted forward to have the same distance to the source as the front face of the segmented Super Clover detector (see figure A.2). Two measurements have been performed with a source at a distance of 9 cm and 25 cm, respectively. The single hit-probability measured with the inner contacts of the individual Germanium crystals was and for the short and large distance. Therefore, the peak-to-total ratio is dominated by -fold=1. The experimental data are presented in table 5.3 and table 5.2 for individual Germanium crystals and for the Super Clover detector in add-back mode without using the BGO anti-Compton shield and with BGO shield.

distance of 25 cm for individual Germanium crystals (no add-back) and for

shield and with BGO shield.

In table 5.4, the peak-to-total ratios are given separately for single hits and double hits measured with the inner contacts of the individual Germanium crystals.
